History and Significance
History
- As detailed in Chapter 72 of the Kashi Khand, Tripura Bhairavi is one of the fierce Shakti manifestations that emerged to destroy Durgasur's army. The temple and the adjacent Tripura Bhairavi Ghat were established as prominent pilgrimage sites along the Ganga in medieval Kashi.
Significance
- Representing the fifth Mahavidya in Tantric tradition, Tripura Bhairavi embodies cosmic destruction of ego and ignorance. Worshipping her bestows spiritual mastery, protection against enemies, and quick fulfillment of noble vows. Her temple near Dasaswamedh Ghat remains highly active.
