- Mythology states that the demon king Ravana performed severe penance to Shiva here, cutting off his ten heads as an offering. Impressed by his devotion, Shiva cured Ravana's wounds, earning the title Baidyanath (Divine Healer). The main 72-foot stone temple in the 22-temple complex was constructed by Raja Pooran Mal of Gidhaur in 1596.

- Baidyanath Dham is revered as one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple complex houses 22 temples bound together by red holy bands representing the divine union of Shiva and Parvati. It is the site of the annual Shravani Mela, drawing millions of Kanwar pilgrims carrying holy water from the Ganges.
