History
- According to Chapter 70 of the Kashi Khand, Mahalakshmi Gauri is enshrined near the sacred Lakshmi Kund in Varanasi. The temple complex has served as the center for the famous 16-day Sorahhiya Mela since ancient times. The site holds historical significance as a major hub for ancestral rites and Lakshmi worship.
Significance
- Mahalakshmi Gauri is the fifth deity in the Nava Gauri Yatra. Devotees perform ritual baths in Lakshmi Kund and offer alms to the needy to obtain eternal wealth and freedom from debts. Special prayers conducted during the month of Bhadrapada draw vast crowds.
