- Udayeshwar Temple (also known as Neelkantheshwar Temple) was constructed between 1059 and 1080 AD by Paramara King Udayaditya in Udaipur, Vidisha district. Carved out of red sandstone, it represents one of the finest surviving examples of Bhumija style temple architecture. An inscription in the temple records its foundation and consecration by King Udayaditya.
Significance
- Udayeshwar Temple is a celebrated monument of Paramara art, renowned for its star-shaped ground plan and intricate stone spires. The sanctum enshrines a large brass-covered Shivlinga that receives direct sunlight during equinoxes. It is maintained as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India.
