- Sivadol Temple was constructed in 1734 CE by Queen Ambika, wife of Ahom King Shiva Singha, along the banks of the Sivasagar tank. Standing at a height of 104 feet, it is capped with an eight-foot pure golden kalasha. The complex stands alongside Vishnu Doul and Devi Doul in the royal Ahom precinct.
Significance
- Sivadol is celebrated as the tallest medieval Shiva temple spire in India. Its outer brick walls are decorated with intricate stone bas-reliefs depicting Hindu deities and Ahom royal emblems. The annual Shivratri fair surrounding the Borpukhuri lake is one of Assam's largest cultural gatherings.
