History
- Founded
- Ancient
- Jatashankar Cave Temple is a natural ravine cave shrine located in a deep valley surrounded by rocky cliffs in Pachmarhi. Legend states that Lord Shiva concealed himself in these caves to escape the demon Bhasmasura. The natural rock formations inside resemble the matted locks (Jata) of Shiva.
Significance
- Jatashankar is a revered natural cave shrine where a self-formed Shivlinga rests under a massive rock overhang resembling the matted hair of Lord Shiva. Drips of freshwater continuously trickle down the cave roof over the Lingam. It is a vital pilgrimage and nature site in the Satpura hill range of Pachmarhi.
