- Draksharamam Sri Bhimeswara Swamy Temple was built between 892 and 922 AD by Eastern Chalukya King Chalukya Bhima I. Situated in the Godavari delta, the two-storeyed stone structure was expanded by Chola and Kakatiya rulers. It forms an integral part of the Trilinga Desha identity of Andhra Pradesh.
Significance
- Draksharamam is uniquely significant as both one of the three sacred Pancharama Kshetras of Lord Shiva (Trilinga) and one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas (Goddess Manikyamba). The sanctum houses a 14-foot-high crystal Shivlinga spanning two floors, bathed from the upper storey. It stands as a pinnacle of Eastern Chalukya heritage.
