- Amaralingeswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati dates back to the Satavahana and Kota Vamsa periods along the Krishna River. The temple complex was renovated in the late 18th century by Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu of Chintapalli, who developed Amaravati into a major spiritual town. It is surrounded by ancient Buddhist heritage sites.
Significance
- Amaralingeswara Temple is the first among the five sacred Pancharama Kshetras of Lord Shiva in Andhra Pradesh. The sanctum houses a 15-foot-tall white marble Shivlinga, requiring priests to climb a wooden staircase to perform daily abhishekam. Situated on the southern bank of the Krishna River, it is a key Shaivite pilgrimage destination.
