- Tripura Sundari Temple in Talwara dates back to before the 3rd century CE according to local inscriptions, with major structural work recorded around 1150 CE during the Parmar reign. The temple was built near three ancient fortresses (Puras), giving the deity her name Tripura Sundari. It has been renovated continuously by regional rulers.
Significance
- The temple enshrines a black stone idol of Goddess Tripura Sundari seated on a peacock surrounded by 64 Yoginis. Popularly known as Turtai Mata, she is worshipped as the supreme deity of power and fulfillment in the Vagad belt of Rajasthan. Thousands of pilgrims visit during the Navratri festivals.
