- Ranakpur Jain Temple (Chaumukha Mandir) was commissioned in 1439 AD by Jain merchant Dharna Shah with patronage from Maharana Kumbha of Mewar. Designed by chief architect Depa, construction spanned nearly 50 years using light-colored local marble. It stands as an architectural triumph of medieval Jain art in the Aravalli valley.
Significance
- Ranakpur Chaumukha Temple is celebrated globally for its white marble architecture featuring 1,444 individually carved pillars, no two of which share the same design. The central four-faced idol of Lord Adinatha faces four cardinal directions inside a three-storeyed hall. Sunlight filtering through open domes illuminates the exquisite marble lace carvings.
