- Constructed in the 13th century CE under the patronage of Hoysala King Veera Ballala II, the temple is an outstanding example of Hoysala architecture. Built on a raised star-shaped platform (jagati), it was carved from chloritic schist soapstone. The complex features a trikuta (three-shrine) floor plan.
Significance
- The temple is celebrated for its elaborate star-shaped sanctums and rich outer wall carvings illustrating Vaishnava themes. The three inner shrines house finely sculpted deities of Lakshmi Narasimha, Venugopala, and Purushottama. It is maintained and protected as a national monument by the ASI.
