- Dakshineswar Kali Temple was founded by Rani Rashmoni, a philanthropist and zamindar, following divine dream instructions from Goddess Kali. Constructed between 1847 and 1855 on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, it was consecrated on Snana Yatra day in May 1855. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa served as the head priest, transforming it into a center of global spiritual awakening.
Significance
- Dakshineswar Kali Temple is an iconic Bengal Navaratna-style temple dedicated to Goddess Bhavatarini ('She who liberates her devotees'). The complex features twelve twin Shiva temples lining the Hooghly River bank and a Radha-Kanta shrine.
