In 1659 CE, Dodda Devaraja Wodeyar constructed 1,000 stone steps to the summit and commissioned a monolithic Nandi bull statue. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar III constructed the seven-story Dravidian Gopuram in 1827.
