- Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple was established by local ruler Chembagakasseri Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran in the 15th-17th century AD. During Tipu Sultan's raids in 1789, the idol of Guruvayurappan was temporarily brought to Ambalappuzha for safekeeping. The traditional satire art form Ottamthullal was first performed on these temple grounds by poet Kunchan Nambiar.

- Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple is world-famous for its sweet milk pudding prasadam known as 'Ambalappuzha Palpayasam', offered daily to Lord Krishna.
